Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust runs two large sites. Queen's Medical Centre was the first purpose-built teaching hospital in the UK and is a major trauma centre for the East Midlands. City Hospital sits on a 90-acre site north of the city centre, with specialist services including cancer, cardiac and renal care.
NHS Nottingham and Nottinghamshire Integrated Care Board commissions services across the city and county. The University of Nottingham's medical and nursing schools are based at Queen's Medical Centre, and its School of Veterinary Medicine and Science is at the Sutton Bonington campus.
BioCity, on Pennyfoot Street, is described as the country's largest bioscience innovation and incubation centre, with around 70 member companies. It works closely with the University of Nottingham and Nottingham Trent University. Its tenants range from early-stage biotech firms to established life science companies, and many generate laboratory waste from their first day of work.
From trauma surgery and cancer care to vet practices and lab start-ups, Nottingham produces nearly every type of clinical waste. Our service covers licensed collection, compliant treatment and full Duty of Care documentation, including hazardous waste consignment notes where a stream requires them.
From sharps in a single treatment room to infectious, cytotoxic and pharmaceutical waste across a multi-site estate, every stream is collected compliantly and backed by the right paperwork.

Our service covers Nottingham businesses of all sizes that produce healthcare, laboratory or hygiene waste.
Companies at BioCity and other city science sites produce cultures, contaminated plastics, reagents and sharps. We collect under the right waste codes and give small teams tidy, complete records from day one.
With a university vet school at Sutton Bonington, the area has close links with veterinary training. Practices produce sharps, medicines, infectious waste and animal tissue, and we collect each stream under the correct waste codes.
Practices and pharmacies from Beeston to Arnold handle sharps, swabs, vaccine waste and returned medicines. We collect from your colour-coded containers and provide the paperwork you need for contract checks and inspections.
Residential and nursing homes across Nottinghamshire produce offensive hygiene waste, incontinence products and medicines. Correct tiger bag segregation keeps costs down and protects residents and staff.
A simple setup with compliance built in from the first collection.
Share your waste streams, rough volumes and site details so we can match each stream to the right collection and treatment route.
Keep each stream in its own compliant, correctly labelled container in a secure storage area, ready for collection.
Collections are planned around your site, access and volumes, from a single practice to a multi-site estate.
Every collection comes with a hazardous waste consignment note and the records you need to show Duty of Care.
We cover the NG postcode area and neighbouring parts of DE and LE, including the towns around the city.
Whether you run a single practice or a group across the county, we bring every site under one licensed collection plan.

Nottingham businesses that produce sharps, infectious waste, medicines or offensive waste need a licensed collection. That includes GP and dental practices, pharmacies, care homes, vets, private clinics, bioscience labs at sites such as BioCity, tattoo studios and aesthetics clinics. Occupational health teams in local workplaces may also produce clinical waste.
The colours follow HTM 07-01. Orange is infectious waste for alternative treatment and yellow is infectious waste for incineration. Yellow and black means offensive waste. Purple lids are for cytotoxic and cytostatic material, blue lids for other medicines and red lids for anatomical waste. Correct colours send each item to the right treatment and avoid rejected loads.
Store hazardous waste consignment notes for a minimum of three years, and waste transfer notes for a minimum of two. Store a copy of your carrier's licence and any waste assessments. Inspectors may ask to see them at short notice. We provide the documentation with every collection, giving you a complete Duty of Care record.
Yes. Vet practices produce sharps, unused medicines, infectious waste and animal tissue. Once your team has segregated each stream, we collect it under the correct veterinary waste codes with full documentation. We cover practices across Nottingham and Nottinghamshire, including the area around the Sutton Bonington campus.
Collections run on a regular schedule agreed with you, such as weekly, fortnightly or monthly. You should have your own HTM 07-01 colour-coded containers, correctly labelled for each stream, and a secure storage area that staff can reach but the public cannot. We provide licensed collection and complete documentation. If you add services or rooms, we review your schedule so you always have enough capacity.
No. We only work with businesses. Nottingham residents should contact Nottingham City Council about collecting sharps or clinical waste from home. If you live elsewhere in Nottinghamshire, such as Rushcliffe or Gedling, contact your own borough council. Your GP or pharmacist can also help.
