Clinical Waste Challenges Across Lancashire's Towns and Coast

Lancashire's healthcare is split across several acute hospital trusts. Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust runs the Royal Preston Hospital in Fulwood and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital. East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust runs the Royal Blackburn Hospital and Burnley General Hospital. Blackpool Teaching Hospitals runs Blackpool Victoria Hospital, and University Hospitals of Morecambe Bay runs the Royal Lancaster Infirmary.

NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board plans services across the area. Medical and dental education is strong. The University of Central Lancashire in Preston runs schools of medicine and dentistry, and Lancaster University trains doctors through Lancaster Medical School.

The business base is varied. Preston and Blackburn have dense networks of GP surgeries, pharmacies and dental practices. The Fylde coast has many care homes alongside a busy hospitality and events economy. Rural Lancashire, from the Ribble Valley to the Forest of Bowland, relies on farm and equine vets.

Each setting needs a service that fits. Lancashire businesses segregate clinical waste by HTM 07-01 colour codes, and we plan collections around their space and provide the consignment notes that prove their Duty of Care.

Who We Work With

Lancashire Organisations We Collect Clinical Waste From

From Preston city centre to the Fylde coast, Lancashire's clinical waste producers share one need: compliant collection with clear records.

Care Homes on the Fylde Coast

Blackpool, Lytham St Annes, Fleetwood and Morecambe have many care and nursing homes. We collect sharps, dressings, continence waste and unwanted medicines from your colour-coded containers, with tidy records for inspections.

Dental Practices Around Preston

Dental training in Preston supports a broad network of practices. We collect sharps, amalgam, extracted teeth and infectious waste from surgeries across Preston, Chorley and Leyland, with consignment notes for every hazardous load.

Pharmacies and GP Surgeries in East Lancashire

Blackburn, Burnley and Accrington have busy primary care and community pharmacy networks. We collect medicines and sharps from your own containers and agree a collection pattern that fits each site.

Tattoo, Piercing and Aesthetics Studios

Studios in Blackpool, Preston and Lancaster produce needles, cartridges and contaminated waste. Even small volumes need licensed collection and records, and we plan collections around compact treatment rooms.

FAQs

Your Questions, Answered

Still have a question? Call 0800 804 8612 or send us a message.

Any Lancashire business that creates clinical waste must use a licensed collection. That includes GP and dental practices in Preston and Blackburn, care homes on the Fylde coast, pharmacies, vets in the Ribble Valley, tattoo and aesthetics studios, and private clinics in Lancaster. Your Duty of Care applies however small your output.

HTM 07-01 links colours to treatment. Yellow is infectious waste for incineration. Orange is infectious waste suitable for alternative treatment. Yellow and black stripes are offensive hygiene waste. Purple is reserved for cytotoxic medicines, blue for other medicines, red for anatomical waste and white for dental amalgam. Clear signage at each bin helps staff segregate correctly.

You need a hazardous waste consignment note for each hazardous clinical collection, kept for at least three years. Non-hazardous waste goes on a waste transfer note. These records prove your Duty of Care from your premises to final treatment. We supply the correct paperwork with every collection.

Yes. We work with care and nursing homes across Blackpool, Lytham St Annes, Fleetwood and nearby towns. We collect sharps and medicines, plus offensive and infectious waste, from your colour-coded containers on an agreed schedule, with paperwork ready for CQC inspections.

Collections follow a regular pattern we agree with you, shaped by your volumes and storage. Lancashire sites need their own compliant HTM 07-01 colour-coded containers, each correctly labelled, plus a secure storage area away from residents and visitors. We provide licensed collection and the consignment notes and Duty of Care records for each visit. If your output changes, we review the schedule with you.

No. We collect from businesses, not homes. Residents should contact their local council for household clinical waste, for example Preston City Council, Blackpool Council, Lancaster City Council or Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council. A GP or community pharmacist can also explain the options.
